A Day of Dedication and New Beginnings at Vaughn’s Chapel

“So in Christ we who are many are one body, and each member belongs to one another.” — Romans 12:5

Today marked a deeply meaningful moment in the life of our church as we gathered for the Dedication Day of Vaughn’s Chapel. It was a day filled with reflection, gratitude, and a clear sense that we are stepping forward while honoring all that came before us.

We began the service in a powerful and symbolic way—called to worship by the sounding of the shofars. The sound carried through the sanctuary, setting a tone of reverence and awakening, reminding us that this was not just another service, but a moment set apart.

Caroline opened us in prayer, centering our hearts and inviting God’s presence into every part of the day.

Throughout the service, we were blessed with several moments of special music. One of the most touching highlights was the children’s choir singing “Shalom,” a simple yet profound reminder of peace, unity, and the beauty of faith passed from one generation to the next.

As part of the dedication, Everett shared a particularly meaningful tribute by announcing the dedication of a garden spot on the church grounds in honor of the late Rev. Wendell Ordway, a former pastor whose ministry deeply impacted both the congregation and the surrounding community. In a moment of remembrance and gratitude, the congregation was invited to sing his favorite hymn, “Blessed Redeemer,” honoring his life, his service, and the lasting legacy he leaves behind. The garden now stands as a living memorial, a place of reflection and remembrance for generations to come.

We were also honored to welcome members of the former Cumberland Presbytery. Their presence meant more than words can fully express. They came not only to speak, but to symbolically pass the torch—to acknowledge the legacy of the past while affirming the future unfolding before us. It was a moment of connection across time, rooted in shared faith and community.

During the service, a brief history of Vaughn’s Chapel was shared, reflecting on the generations who worshiped, served, and sacrificed here. Their faithfulness laid the foundation we now stand on. Uncle Mike followed with words that uplifted and honored the previous congregation, speaking life into their story while encouraging us to carry it forward with purpose.

The service was filled with worship, scripture, and voices from many who have helped shape this church. Each part wove together into a reminder that the church is not just a building—it is a living testimony of God’s work through His people.

We closed the service with a meaningful prayer from Darla, bringing the day to a peaceful and heartfelt conclusion. It was a fitting end to a service that was both reflective and forward-looking.

Today was not just about dedicating a building—it was about dedicating ourselves. As stewards of this place and its story, we step forward with gratitude for the past and hope for what is to come.

The torch has been passed. And we carry it together.
