Everett began by reminding us that the appointed times described in Leviticus 23 belong to the LORD. They were not presented as the traditions of one man, one nation, or one denomination. God declared: “These are My feasts.”

Among these appointed times is a day associated with trumpets, remembrance, awakening, preparation, warning, resurrection, judgment, the coming of the King, and the establishment of God’s Kingdom.

The King Is Coming

1. God’s Appointed Times Have a Purpose

Leviticus 23:23–25 identifies the first day of the seventh month as a Sabbath rest, a holy convocation, and a memorial of trumpet blowing. The Hebrew expression associated with Yom Teruah carries the sense of shouting, sounding an alarm, or making a trumpet blast.

In ancient Israel, trumpets communicated important messages. They called the congregation together, announced movement, warned of danger, signaled conflict, called people to worship, and announced the arrival of a king.

2. The Trumpet Is a Call to Wake Up

An alarm only helps when we respond to it. In the same way, God’s warnings, conviction, correction, and Word require a response from us. Hearing is not the same as obeying.

Romans 13:11 reminds believers that it is time to awaken from spiritual sleep because our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. Religious activity and biblical knowledge alone do not guarantee spiritual alertness.

The question is not only, “Do you know about God?” The question is, “Are you awake to God?”

3. The Trumpet Is a Warning

Ezekiel 33 describes a watchman sounding the trumpet when danger is approaching. The watchman could not remain silent simply because the warning might make others uncomfortable. His responsibility was to sound the alarm so the people could prepare.

The spiritual warning for our generation is not merely that difficult days may come. The greater announcement is: the King is coming. His arrival will bring change, accountability, resurrection, judgment, and the fulfillment of God’s Kingdom.

4. Jesus Told His Disciples to Watch

In Matthew 24:42–44, Jesus instructed His followers to watch and be ready because no one knows the hour of His coming. The Feast of Trumpets calls us to examine our own spiritual condition—not someone else’s.

A Personal Call to Readiness

Is my heart right before God?
Have I forgiven those I need to forgive?
Am I walking in obedience and repentance?
Is my life producing spiritual fruit?
Am I loving God and loving my neighbor?
Am I seeking the Kingdom?
Am I living as though the King is truly coming?

The trumpet announces that the King is coming. May we not become so comfortable or distracted that we sleep through the alarm. Let us watch, pray, repent, obey, and live faithfully as we await the fulfillment of God’s Kingdom.
