This Sabbath was especially meaningful as Tommy delivered his first message to the congregation. Speaking about pride, ego, praise and humility, Tommy encouraged us to examine where our strength comes from, whose will we are following and how we treat our fellow believers within the Body of Christ.

Fellowship in Faith Morning Bible Study Online

Michael Deering led this week’s Fellowship in Faith Morning Bible Study Online. Uncle Mike revisited the message he shared the last time he spoke with us, continuing his teaching about doctrine, belief and our shared faith in God.

We are thankful for everyone who joined the online discussion and helped begin the Sabbath with thoughtful study and fellowship.

Paula opened the main service in prayer, and Sarah B led the congregation in worship.

Each song helped prepare our hearts for a message about surrendering pride, choosing humility and trusting God as the source of our strength.

Scripture Reflection

Lilly shared this week’s scripture reflection from Joshua 9:12.

We are always thankful when the children and young people of our congregation are willing to stand before the church and share from Scripture. Lilly’s participation reminded us that every member of the Body of Christ has something meaningful to contribute.

Special Music

The Ellisons blessed the congregation with special music titled “Road Less Travelled.”

Their song complemented the day’s message by reminding us that following God’s way may require us to choose a different path—one marked by faith, humility and obedience rather than pride or the approval of others.

Pride, Ego, Praise and Humility

How pride and humility affect our strength, will and support

For the first time, Tommy stood before the congregation as our main speaker. His message explored how pride and humility affect our strength, our will and the support we offer others.

Tommy encouraged us to guard ourselves against sinful pride and remember that God—not our accomplishments, knowledge, denomination or personal beliefs—is our strength in all things. True spiritual strength begins when we align ourselves with God’s will instead of insisting upon our own.

Drawing from Ezra 5 and Matthew 5:45, Tommy reminded us that God causes the sun to rise upon both the good and the evil. Therefore, our kindness, patience and humility should not be reserved only for people we consider worthy. We are called to extend them to everyone.

Tommy also addressed the spiritual pride that can develop among churches and denominations. Christians can become so convinced that their congregation or personal belief system is the only correct one that they begin treating other believers as though they do not belong.

We cannot claim to be one Body in Christ while dismissing or mistreating our brethren because they understand certain doctrines differently. Humility requires us to recognize that our knowledge is limited, God remains our ultimate teacher and every member of the Body should be treated with love.

Pride says that our strength, knowledge and standing belong to us.

Humility recognizes that everything we have comes from God.

Our responsibility is not to decide who deserves our kindness. It is to align ourselves with God’s will, rely upon His strength and reflect His love to others.

We are very proud of Tommy for answering the call to share his first message. It takes courage and humility to stand before the congregation, and his teaching gave us important truths to carry into the coming week.

Children’s Class

Jasmine led this week’s children’s class. We are grateful for those who faithfully help teach, encourage and care for the youngest members of our fellowship.

Announcements

Skit Rehearsal

Skit rehearsal will be held Sunday, August 23, at 2:00 p.m. Participants may attend in person or through Google Meet.

Quilting Party

A quilting party is planned for next Sunday from 12:00–4:00 p.m. Rachel and Devan will also provide a craft or project for the children during the activity.

Feast of Trumpets

Plans are being made for the congregation’s Feast of Trumpets gathering on September 12. Additional information will be shared as arrangements are finalized.

Closing Thought

Pride directs our attention toward ourselves.
Humility directs our attention toward God.

May we remember that our strength comes from God, our will must be aligned with His and our kindness should extend beyond the boundaries created by preference, denomination or disagreement.

We are one Body in Christ.
May we treat one another accordingly.
